Evergreen holds and transits

Our library staff thank you for your patience over the last couple months with the extra-long wait times for hold items coming in from around the state! The Indiana State Library has decided to terminate their contract with the new courier system and return to using the previous courier. This means that we will soon be returning to the reliable and speedy interlibrary loan service.

This transition will take some time though and is something that is going to have a significant, but ideally temporary, impact on Evergreen item transits and holds. All deliveries will be suspended from September 1st-September 11th as they transition. At that time deliveries are expected to resume, but it may take a couple of weeks to get things caught up completely.

What does that mean for Monticello-Union Township Public Library (MUTPL) patrons?

You may see items in your account that say "in transit" or "waiting for item" for multiple weeks, particularly if these are items that you have requested from libraries other than MUTPL. Holds will not be able to be placed on items owned by other Evergreen Indiana libraries until September 18th. This will give the courier time to clean up the backlog.

Should you cancel your pending holds?

We do not recommend this. Canceling holds could cause you to wait longer for items because it will move you to the end of the line. While you are waiting for your holds, remember that you can also look for digital material on Hoopla, Libby, and Kanopy.

We apologize for the inconvenience and appreciate your patience during this time!
